TURA: Organizing Secretary of the BJP in Ampati, Koruna Koch along with the Yuba and Mohila Morcha including party Karya Kartas have backed the candidature of Bakul Chandra Hajong to contest the Ampati seat in the upcoming by-election to be held on May 28.

Hajong had unsuccessfully contested the seat against then Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in the recently held assembly election on February 27, which Sangma won. However, in view of Mukul Sangma resigning to take over the reins in Songsak, re-election to the seat was necessitated.

Backing Hajong’s candidature, his supporters have warned that if the state and central BJP leaders do not allot Hajong the party ticket by May 5, they would support him to contest as an independent candidate, as a mark of protest.

The supporters also expressed dissatisfaction over the party’s National Spokesperson in-charge of Meghalaya, Nalin Kohli’s alleged negligence and lack of interest for the party’s success in Garo Hills in the recently held assembly elections.
