NPP wins polls in Williamnagar LAC in Meghalaya

SHILLONG/TURA: The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has won the adjourned election held to Williamnagar Assembly Constituency in Meghalaya. The result of the election was declared on Tuesday.

Returning Officer hands over the certificate of winning to NPP candidate, Marcuise N Marak on Tuesday.

 

The NPP candidate Marcuise N Marak secured 9558 votes while his nearest rival Sengbath R Marak (Independent) secured 4698 votes. There were nine candidates in the fray including former minister and Congress’ Deborah C Marak who has emerged third in the poll race by securing 4517 votes.

The NCP candidate Krinilla R Marak, whose husband Jonathone N Sangma’s murder led to adjournment of polls in Williamnagar, secured 4009 votes. Jonathone N Sangma who was the original NCP candidate, was killed in the run up to February 27 Assembly polls.
