Army’s ‘Manipur 30’ helps 16 Manipur students clear IIT-JEE

GUWAHATI: A collaborative initiative by Indian Army has helped 16 meritorious students from insurgency-affected Senapati district of Manipur to clear IIT/JEE examination 2018.

Defence spokesman Lt Col P Khongsai informed that in a maiden project of its kind titled “Manipur 30” was undertaken by Senapati Brigade of the Red Shield Division in collaboration with Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL), where in meritorious students from economically weaker section of the society were imparted free coaching and guidance for appearing in IIT/JEE exam 2018.

The pioneer batch consisting of 18 students were sent to Guwahati in mid- August last year and they were given exclusive coaching and guidance with free boarding and lodging facility.

“Due to the hard work put in by the students and amicable study environment provided by the Army and CSRL, a total of 16 student cleared the IIT/JEE exam, the result of which was declared on April 30, 2018,” the Army official informed.

The successful students are now being coached further for Advance IIT/JEE exam which is scheduled to be held on May 20, 2018.

The Army initiative is aimed at prevent young students being falling into the trap of insurgents   and equip them with right qualities and qualifications that will enable them to contribute towards the nation building process.
