TURA: A nation-wide flagship programme being initiated by the Government of India under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan called the Aajevika and Kaushal Vikas Diwas, took place in Garo Hills with a special event being organised at Tura’s district auditorium on Saturday afternoon.
The Executive Member, in-charge of Taxation in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Righteous N Sangma, graced the occasion as chief guest in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Ram Singh and other officials in which hundreds of members from different Self Help Groups, particularly women, took part.
Addressing a packed audience of SHGs, Righteous Sangma said that both the state and central government is providing various schemes to the people and urged them to avail these schemes and try to implement it properly adding that the people are gifted in nature for farming and allied activities which can achieve better production with assistance from the concerned department.
He further suggested the women SHGs to work in collaboration for the progress of their own society and region in particular.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh highlighted the aims and objectives of the ambitious National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) which has been projected to uplift rural women and self-help group projects. Stating about the poor maintenance of accounts and book keeping, he suggested the groups to train themselves about this skill which will be beneficial in maintaining the records of the concerned groups.
During the function, the Chief Guest and the Deputy Commissioner felicitated the Best SHGs, VOs from different parts of Garo Hills, including far flung Chokpot region, and also handed over the sanction orders to VOs as Community Investment fund.
Representatives from Agriculture and Horticulture and Branch Manager, MRB delivered on various schemes being provided to the people from their respective departments.
