SHILLONG: There are no institutions in South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills for commerce stream thereby depriving students of these two districts to excel in higher education.
In the district wise percentage of the result, the MBoSE has shown it as blank in both the districts.
When contacted, an official with the MBoSE said students from these districts could not appear for commerce as there are no institutions taking up the subject. Though there are government institutions, the commerce stream was not introduced in these two districts, the official added.
100 percent schools
There are only a few higher secondary schools which secured cent percent results in both science and commerce streams. Those which secured cent percent in science stream are Brookside Adventist HS School (Shillong), Laban Boys’ Bengalee HS School.
The other schools with cent percent result are RK Mission Higher Secondary School (Sohra), Maharam Higher Secondary School (Mawkyrwat), St Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Pyndengrei (West Khasi Hills).
In commerce stream, the schools are Christian Academy Higher Secondary School, Laban Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Rilbong P N Chaudhuri Higher Secondary School, Sacred Heart Girls’ Higher Secondary, St Margaret’s Higher Secondary School, St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, St Peter’s Higher Secondary School (all Shillong), Mawryngkneng Higher Secondary School and Mawsynram Border Area Higher Secondary School.
The Principal of Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, R. Bhattacharjee, said more than 50 per cent of the students secured first division in both the streams. Rahul Singh of science secured the highest marks in Hindi and distinction in all subjects.
