SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) which did not perform well in the last assembly elections is hoping for a turnaround in the District Council elections scheduled to be held next year.

Senior UDP leader, Bindo Lanong said that the party had also identified few candidates for the elections though they were yet to be officially declared as the candidate.  “By the end of June, picture will be slightly clearer,” he said.

Stating that the party has already started the exercise of preparing for the elections, Lanong said the party pinned hopes on the people who have not been conquered by the power of money and who did not vote for Congress

He said that in the last elections, apart from rural areas, huge money was pump even in the city and it was very surprising that neither the election department nor the police apparently knew about the use of money power in the elections.
