SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP), which did not perform well in the February Assembly elections, is determined to make a turnaround in the district council election next year. UDP senior leader Bindo Lanong said the party has identified a few candidates for the council elections though they are yet to be officially declared.
“By the end of June, things will be clearer,” he said. Stating that the party has already started preparing for the election, Lanong said UDP is banking on people who were not carried away by money power and abstained from voting for the Congress.
He said in the last election, apart from rural areas, huge money was pumped in even in the city and “it is very surprising that neither the Election Department nor the police knew about the use of money power”.
