SHILLONG: To spread the awareness about the importance of blood donation, a youth Kiran Verma is walking 15,000 kms on a voluntary basis to encourage blood donation across India, Nepal and Bhutan and Verma. He reached Shillong on Monday to spread his message.
Kiran Verma, founder of the – “Simply Blood” – World’s First Virtual Blood Donation Platform and First Social Media Platform for Blood Donation reached Shillong on Monday and met officials of Doordarshan and Press Information Bureau.
Verma was keen to meet the Chief Minister and other officials of the health department but he could not do so.
Speaking to media persons, he said that he started his Journey on January 26 from Lal Chowk, Srinagar and till now he has traveled more than 11,500kms out of which he has walked more than 3500 kms while the rest of the distance was traveled using different means of transportation till Hyderabad in the last four months.
I have spread my message among more than 7,00,000 people across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and other states so far by sharing my vision with students in colleges, Universities, Public places like malls, restaurants, railway stations, bus stands,” he said.
Reacting to a query about his initiative, he said that everyday more than 12,000 people died in India due to lack of blood and his mission was to encourage at least 10 people in every kilometre to take a pledge to donate blood at least once in their life.
“If this happens then this 15,000kms of journey is going to save at least 150,000 lives through blood donation,” he said.
According to Verma, in last one year, 2,000 lives had been saved in 11 countries on Simply Blood App which is absolutely free on their App and nothing was charged from either donor or seeker by Simply Blood.
He said that he had lost his mother when he was 7 due to cancer and because of that incident, he realized the importance of a life adding he has donated his blood for 40 times just to make sure that nobody has to go through that same hardship he had gone through.
