TURA: In a bizarre incident, a 36-year-old man from Tura was killed after he had fallen  off an old unused bridge and plunged into a deep gorge at Rongkhon near Tura on Tuesday night.

A Swift Desire vehicle bearing registration number ML08E-0440 was also found stranded halfway across the bridge. The vehicle is said to belong to one, Mridul Koch, also from Tura.

The victim, Anand Borah from Fancy Valley locality is suspected to have met with the accident when he along with three or four other people had attempted to cross the unused bridge in the vehicle. Local sources informed that when the vehicle got stuck, all the occupants were busy trying to get it across and in the commotion failed to notice the victim fall off the bridge. After trying for some time, the others gave up and left presuming that Borah had left on his own. The dead body of Borah was discovered by locals only this morning who informed the police.

Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Dr M G R Kumar when contacted said that it was too early to say anything on the matter.

“For now, we are unable to say what actually happened. Our team visited the site this morning and brought back the body which has been sent for post mortem. Investigation is going on and we will know what happened after we get the post mortem report,” Kumar said.

According to the police official a case has been filed over the incident and investigations would continue.
