Shylla slams former CM for ‘misleading people’
SHILLONG: NPP MDC HS Shylla criticised former chief minister Mukul Sangma for bulldozing the district councils and misleading the people of the state on the issue of encroachment of MUDA. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Shylla said, “The people had to suffer unnecessarily for more than a year because the former chief minister misled the people on the issue.”
Shylla pointed to the tripartite meeting of the KHADC and the traditional heads on December 14 last year with the then Mukul-led government in which the state government said that a petition will be filed by the Urban Affairs Department before the Court to apprise on the decisions taken since the matter is pending before the Meghalaya High Court. Shylla maintained that the move was misleading because the PIL filed by Tirot Sing Syiemlieh in 2015 was already disposed of by the Meghalaya High Court after the government withdrew a notification issued on November 5. According to him, the MUA meeting with various stakeholders last year was one sided. Shylla lauded the MDA government for deciding against the application of MUDA Building bye-laws in areas under the jurisdiction of the District Council.
