SHILLONG: With an aim to instill patriotism in the youth, Swabhimaan desh ka, a non-governmental organisation under the leadership of Surender Singh Bidhuri has undertaken a three-month-long march titled Shaheed Swabhimaan Yatra, which will cover 29 states.
The yatra has already covered 15 states with a distance of over 13,500 km and travelled for 56 days. The NGO is also collecting soil from all states.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Bidhuri said the yatra began on March 23 and reached Shillong on Wednesday to collect the soil from the Army base here and will leave for Gangtok on Thursday. “The yatra is aimed with a purpose to give respect to martyrs of India. We also demand from the state government to give Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh the title of son of the nation,” he said.The NGO also plans to establish a 100-foot statue of Bhagat Singh along the Delhi-Punjab road for which soils from all over the states will be scattered all around the statue.
According to Bidhuri, the Shaheed Swabhimaan Card should be given to dependents and relatives of anonymous martyrs for which beneficiaries get free admission and education in government and non-governmental educational institutions, schools and colleges by that card. The yatra was inaugurated by the Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat, Major General Ashok Narula.
