SHILLONG: A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and then hanging her body to make it look like suicide.
Zolbahar Sheikh was arrested and sent to judicial custody on Saturday after the young woman’s father, Nuruzzaman Sheikh, lodged an FIR in Rajabala in West Garo Hills. In the complaint Nuruzzaman said his daughter, Sabina Yesmin, married Zolbahar on August 20 last year. But the husband and his family members started torturing Sabina. They demanded money from Nuruzzaman.
On May 16 this year, they allegedly murdered her and hanged the body, the father alleged. The incident took place at Magurmai village in the district. Police said preliminary report showed the girl’s body bore old injury marks. Zolbahar has been arrested and police are searching for the eight absconding relatives.
