Shillong: The North-Eastern Sector (NES), CRPF observed Anti-terrorism Day in a befitting manner on Monday.
On this occasion, Prakash D, IPS, IGP, NES, CRPF, Shillong administered a pledge on the subject. All senior officers and jawans of CRPF located at Shillong also took the pledge.
Anti-terrorism day is being observed on May 21 every year on the occasion of the death anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The objective behind observance of this day is to wean away the youths from terrorism and the cult of violence by highlighting the sufferings of common people and to show how it is prejudicial to the national interest.
The IGP in his address said that CRPF is a major anti-terrorist operations force in the country. It is working relentlessly to free the society from the clutches of terror and terror related activities.
The Day was also observed at Main Secretariat Building premise in the city where Meghalaya Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh administered the pledge on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Shillong City Congress Committee on Monday commemorate the 27th death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi at Congress Bhawan, Thana Road.
The occasion was led MLA, P.T Sawkmie who is also vice president of the Committee, along with general secretary Kamol Marbaniang, Meba Kharkongor, president Shillong City Mahila Congress, Charles Marngar, secretary, Meghalaya PCC and members of the party.
A short speech about the former prime minister was given by Sawkmie.
A candle light vigil and wreath laying ceremony was also held.
