SHILLONG: Northeast is an area of prime focus as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a clarion call for all round development of the region, said Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani here on Tuesday.
Addressing media persons in Shillong, Irani said that a forum had been setup under the NITI Aayog to work for all round development and work out strategies for expansion and growth of the region.
She informed that the forum was constituted on 10th April of this year, adding that the Centre is focusing on giving more infrastructure thrust to the region and believes that the sun for development for new India will rise in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister also said that because of ‘Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao’ scheme the sex ratio had seen improvement in 104 districts of the country.
Hailing Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Irani said that the scheme provided comprehensive health coverage upto five lakh rupees per family per year to around fifty crore people.
Talking about her ministry, the Union minister said six lakh citizens have been skilled in last four years and the textile sector was now the second largest job provider in the country.
Irani also said that as many as 4 lakh crore had been given under the scheme which has benefitted 70 per cent women workers.
She said six lakh citizens have been skilled in the last four years. She also added that under the various scheme of the Central government such as ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’, Jan Suraksha Bima Yojana, Swacch Bharat Mission has contributed a lot for making development towards new India.
