SHILLONG: South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai lauded Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for reopening access to military cantonments for civilians in the state.
In a letter addressed to the Defence minister on Monday, the legislator along with the Shillong Cantonment Area Development Committee said the decision will ‘make communication easy for people residing around these restricted areas’.
They also urged the minister to look into a memorandum that was submitted on February 15 when the Defence Minister had visited CERA office at Jhalupara, Shillong concerning civilians living within the Shillong Cantonment area.
Though the Cantonment has opened the pine walk area, it is yet to open the other roads. Sitharaman had recently asked the defence authorities to open the closed roads.
