Principal’s co-operation with police keeps him out of bars

SHILLONG: Simon Joseph, the principal of St George School in Nongmynsong who is accused of allegedly beating a few students besides stalking an former assistant teacher and a student has not been arrested so far since “he is cooperating”, police said.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said a case was registered after the FIR was filed against the principal and “all formalities, including medical examination, are being completed”.
However, he added that the accused was not arrested since “he has been cooperating in the investigation and all the sections (he has been booked under) mete out below seven years of punishment”.
A notice has been issued to the accused under Section 41A of the CrPC (notice of appearance before police officer).
Earlier, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and a citizen, Napoleon Mawphniang, had filed an FIR against the principal for allegedly beating a few students, besides stalking a former assistant teacher and a student.
The FIR filed by the two at Nongmynsong police station on Saturday said a minor student staying in the school’s hostel was beaten by the principal with a stick in the hostel on Saturday.
According to the FIR, the principal allegedly touched the former teacher inappropriately, besides hugging her and making similar advances to a student.
However, the principal has already denied the allegations.CSWO lodgedcomplaints with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and State Women Commission on Monday. In her complaint to Child Rights Commission, Kharshiing referred to the assault of minor boys.
She said the principal should be arrested so that the victims can speak up.
