WGH SP cautions against lottery fraud
TURA: West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar has cautioned citizens against fake messages on WhatsApp about lottery wins. The SP said miscreants are using WhatsApp numbers starting with 0091/92 to send unassuming victims messages saying he or she has won Rs 25 lakh. To make it sound convincing, they are sending an audio message of the popular television show Kaun Banega Crorepati. “When the victim calls them on the given WhatsApp number, they are given another contact number to sound convincing. When the victim calls the number, they are asked to transfer some money to an Indian Bank Account for processing their claim,” the SP said. The police chief while urging citizens not to believe such messages has requested them to approach the nearest police station or cyber crime investigation cell for assistance or call on 913651-222461 or email at [email protected].
GVK EMRI celebrates National Pilot Day
SHILLONG: National Pilot Day was celebrated at GVK EMRI Meghalaya along with the rest of the country. On this occasion, GVK EMRI family, Deepankar Choudhury, State Head of Meghalaya Operations, expressed gratitude to all the pilots for their commitment in the mission of saving lives. “GVK EMRI now takes pride in using the services of drivers in many projects and we fondly call them as pilots, captains, in different MMU/ 1962 /181/100/ TEAM/ CCA and hearse services drivers. NGOs up in arms against influx
NONGSTOIN: A public meeting organised by different NGOs held at Shallang market on Wednesday has decided to be strict on leased agreements and check entry of outsiders into the village. The NGOs, including KSU and FKJGP, said that they will start inspecting labour licence and work permit and if anyone is found without valid documents will be send back to their respective places. Cary Oscar Kharmuti, general secretary of FKJGP, said, “The meeting of all the six NGOs was to protect the identity of the Khasis in Shallang and to prevent outsiders from doing any business here.” KSU Mawshynrut’s Ulysis Ryntong asserted that all outsiders in Shallang should be send back to where they came from. The meeting was organised by Lyngngam Indigenous Federation, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front and Western Youth Federation, besides FKJGP and KSU.
Counselling for ex-rebels
RESUBELPARA: Director General of Police SB Singh recently organised a counselling programme for former rebels of GNLA and other outfits at 1st MLP Battalion Headquarters in Mawiong. More than eight surrendered rebels participated in the programme. Church leaders and violinists from North Garo Hills were part of the counselling session. The interaction session on Tuesday began with music followed by power points presentation and speeches. Sharing about his experience after abjuring violence, Handyson M Sangma, a former rebel, said he wished he were told about the difference between right and wrong “before I joined militancy”.
