Lambor wants Punjabi Lane residents rehabilitated

SHILLONG: Nongkrem MLA Lambor Malngiang on Friday demanded immediate investigation into Thursday’s incident at Punjabi Lane that created a volatile situation in Shillong.
Addressing reporters he said rehabilitation of the resident of Sweepers’ Colony was finalised a long time back and they were even provided alternative accommodation at Nongmynsong.
) “It is time that we rehabilitate them immediately,” he added.The Independent MLA termed the area as a den of anti-social elements who resort to gambling and harassment. “We are minorities and so are they. We understand their situation. The government is not acting irresponsibly as it is providing accommodation for them at Nongmynsong,” he added.
“The sanctity of the traditional market (Iewduh) under the jurisdiction of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem should be maintained at all costs,” he said, while seeking the intervention of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem into the matter.
