SHILLONG: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has urged the state government to immediately pass an ordinance to exempt scheduled areas from the purview of the MUDA building bylaws.
“The ordinance should also empower the Khasi Autonomous District Council to formulate its own building permission and regulations in the scheduled areas,” PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem informed after a CWC meeting here on Saturday.
He also urged the KHADC to start ground work for issuing building permission once the government passed the ordinance.
He further said PDF is happy with the proposal on the amendment of the Sixth Scheduled since the joint secretary of the Home Ministry Satyendra Garg has assured to incorporate the sections for exemption of areas under the autonomous district councils from the central laws. He also informed that they have also decided to strengthen the party organisation in view of the Lok Sabha and the district council elections in the state.
