SHILLONG: The Opposition Congress has extended support to the government to maintain peace and normalcy in the state.
The Opposition Chief Whip, PT Sawkmie, said on Monday that Congress will not politicise the issue as the party was much concerned about the situation.
Earlier, several quarters had pointed fingers at the Congress for the present crisis.
When asked, Sawkmie said the fact is that the Congress will play the role of a constructive opposition and asserted that it was not interested in politicising the issue.
“We are concerned over the prevailing situation and are keen to ensure that normalcy prevails,” he said.
Earlier, Congress legislator Charles Pyngrope, who took part in the all party meeting extended support to the government to ensure normalcy.
The CLP meeting was to be held on Monday but due to the prevailing curfew, it was postponed to Tuesday at 11 am.
The meeting will welcome the newly elected Ampati MLA Miani D Shira and discuss the land and order situation.
