SHILLONG: Miani D Shira was on Tuesday sworn in as member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the old Assembly premises on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old legislator from Ampati, daughter of former chief minister Mukul Sangma, was administered oath by Speaker Donkupar Roy.
Interacting with media persons after the swearing-in, Shira said she has stepped into politics at a crucial juncture but sounded confident about delivering as per people’s expectations.
“My father has done a lot for Ampati after starting off at a time when there was nothing in the constituency,” she said while speaking of her father’s accomplishments.
She said that her priority is human resources development and added that she has earmarked certain priority areas that she would concentrate on as a legislator. Miani was accompanied to the swearing-in by her father and mother Dikkanchi Shira and other party legislators.
Miani had won the Ampati assembly seat – vacated by her father in favour of Songsak – after defeating NPP’s Clement G Momin by 3191 votes in the by-poll held on May 28.
