Meghalaya cabinet approves 5th Pay Commission Award for deficit school teachers

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday finally approved the inclusion of deficit teachers in the list of beneficiaries in the state under the 5th pay Commission Award with effect from January 1, 2017.

 

Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the deficit teachers would be getting the new pay scale from next month and the arrears would be paid to the deficit teachers in four installments of 25 per cent each.

 

Reacting to a query, Rymbui said that additional funds of Rs 84 crore would be involved for the payment of salary of deficit teachers under the revised pay scale every year.

 

In addition, the Government would need an amount of Rs 126 crore for payment of the arrear from January 1, 2017 to June 1, 2018

 

Rymbui said that the department would work out with the Finance Minister for payment of the first installment of the arrears.

 

On the number of deficit teachers in the State, Education Minister informed that in the deficit secondary school, the total number of non-teaching staff was 322 while the number of teaching staff was 1981.

 

In the deficit higher secondary school, Rymbui informed, the total number of teaching staff was 129 as against total number of 57 non- teaching staff.

 

He further informed the total number of teaching staff in the deficit pattern was 85 while the total number of non-teaching staff was 17.
