Slain CoBRA jawan laid to rest in North Garo Hills village

TURA: The state funeral of Utpal Rabha, the slain CRPF Cobra Commando from North Garo Hills, was held at Torikkapara in the district on Friday.
Rabha (27) was killed in a gun battle with Maoists in Jharkhand on early Thursday morning.
According to a CRPF source, a joint team of Commando troops along with Jharkhand police was on an area dominance operation in a Maoist-hit area when rebels opened fire killing Rabha on the spot and injuring another. The incident had taken place around 6.50 am.
The body was flown by chopper to Guwahati and from there it was taken to his residence at Torikkapara on Friday morning where his funeral took place at 12 noon. The funeral was attended by Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu, Superintendent of Police Sacheng R Marak and the DIG of CRPF at Torikkapara.
Sadhu said people should honour such a brave Indian who laid down his life for a great cause.
The SP offered his condolences to Rabha’s family and said, “Let us produce more faithful young men who are worthy to be called the faithful children of our motherland.”
Rabha was born in 1991 to Brojen Rabha and Bekhina Rabha at Torikkapara under Bajengdoba police station. He studied at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mendal and then joined Dudhnoi College to pursue his degree in Arts.
After completion of his degree he went to Goalpara where he got an opportunity for recruitment and successfully joined the 209th Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) in the year 2011.
Condolence
Meanwhile, the Bajengdoba Circle of the FKJGP condoled the death of Rabha. “We are proud of his supreme sacrifice for the protection of our motherland. May our prayers and sympathy give courage to the grieving family members,” it said.
