Shillong: The long-standing casual workers of MeECL will go on strike from June 18.
The workers have been opposing the imposition of an illegal contract on them, the provisions of which are not tenable in law and against which the MeECL progressive workers union has time and again submitted detailed objections to the management.
They are yet to be given wages as per new rates and arrears released to them. The demand for regularisation and equal pay for equal work have not yet been processed forcing the workers to take this step. The workers who will go on strike include office staff, bill collectors and clerks, maintenance staff, control room and power house staff and others.
