SHILLONG: Chairman of the State Planning Board and Nongkrem MLA Lambor Malngiang and North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum on Wednesday met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to apprise him of the current situation in the city.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Malngiang said the government has done its best to control the boiling situation and Police department and government worked hand in hand to bring the situation under control. He also expressed happiness that the government showed restraint and there was no hard action against the agitators. Reacting to a query on the release of stone pelters lodged in jail, Malngiang said the government has released a number of them – some unconditionally and some by way of bail.
“We can’t let off everybody since there are some youths who were involved in the recent incidents while others were innocent and the government is studying the matter,” he said. Earlier, relatives of the 68 people who were arrested during the recent violence in the city had asked the state government to keep its promise and release them unconditionally.
