SHILLONG: A day after Opposition leader, Mukul Sangma claimed that the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government would collapse anytime, the ruling National People’s Party and its ally United Democratic Party (UDP) have denied any such threats to the government.
The NPP state president, WR Kharlukhi said that CLP leader, Mukul Sangma was confused, shaky and not sure of retaining himself as the CLP leader and this was the reason he was making such statements to keep his MLAs together
Recalling the political situation in the state in 1993, Kharlukhi said that Salseng Marak was elected as Chief Minister in 1993 and in the year 1998 he was again re-elected as CLP leader and since the Congress was the single largest party, they stake the claim and they were asked to prove majority in two weeks.
However, according to Kharlukhi, Salseng Marak could not prove the majority and then BB Lyngdoh government was formed in the state, adding that after six months of the government, the Congress MLAs became restless and Salseng Marak was changed as the CLP leader.
Maintaining that the Congress does not have the number to form the Government or else they would have staked claim to form the government after Ampati by-elections, Kharlukhi questioned as how there could be poaching of Congress MLAs when Zenith Sangma himself claimed that the Congress house was intact.
Meanwhile, UDP leader, Allan Dkhar said that the statement of Mukul Sangma was an entitlement which he enjoyed as a part of his dream and there was no truth in such statement.
He added that the coalition was intact and it was gaining strength with each passing day even as he denied any threats to the coalition government.
Earlier, Mukul Sangma while claiming that the NPP-led state government would fall anytime he had accused BJP and its ally NPP of trying to poach Congress MLAs.
