SHILLONG: The city police have submitted a proposal to the state government to install CCTV cameras in 30 more locations.
The government is keen to go for more hi-tech cameras and surveillance system in the city and the 30 CCTV cameras installed earlier are currently being operated by Shillong police.
CCTV cameras in other locations will be helpful for the city police as these would be helpful in dealing with cases of burglary and other crime and even traffic management.
Sources said it’s up to the government to approve the proposal.
The CCTV surveillance helped police identify rioters this time. SP City S Rynjah, other police personnel and the magistrate were attacked by an unruly mob at Mawkhar. Rynjah was seriously injured. Three days later, when he was at the Police Control Room, the same mob appeared on the CCTV screen near FPO area, thereby violating the curfew order.
A police team was dispatched and 14 persons were arrested.
