SHILLONG: Conrad Sangma has made it clear that he will continue as the chief minister of the state and not head back to the Lok Sabha.
Speaking to media persons here recently, Sangma said, “It is a decision of the coalition partners, including the NPP legislators, that I should continue to lead the government.”
As Sangma is unelected, he will have to contest the by-election from any constituency. He, however, refused to divulge which constituency he would contest from.
“You will come to know about it in a few days and let me also keep something close to my chest,” the chief minister said.
However, sources said Sangma would contest the by-elections from South Tura constituency, currently held by his sister Agatha Sangma.
Sangma, who is leading a five-party alliance, was sworn in as chief minister in March. He has time till September to contest and win an Assembly seat.
NPP’s partner UDP was firm that Sangma should lead the government.
