MAWKYRWAT: With the dissolution of Ranikor Congress Block Committee, South West Khasi Hills, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) had on Friday constituted an ad-hoc committee to revamp the party.
However, the District Coordination Committee is not happy with party appointing former UDP and PDF members in the ad-hoc committee. The committee consists of P.K. Nongmin as the convener, Khranglin Lyngkhoi, JC Diengngan, Mabadon Nonglyer, Leenga A Sangma and Haripodo Hajong as members.
It was directed to organise all the primary units at the earliest in order to facilitate early formation of the Executive Committee of the BCC.
However, the District Congress Committee is against the party for the inclusion of JC Diengngan and Leenga A Sangma (PDF and UDP leaders respectively, who joined the Congress only after the dissolution of the Ranikor Block Congress Committee.
They were appointed as members of the ad-hoc committee without holding any consultations.
Congress sources said that the work of reorganising the party should have been entrusted to the DCC.
( “They should have entrusted the work to the DCC to re organise the party because we came from the same family and therefore we know the situation better than anyone,” a party leader said.
With the resignation of leaders and supporters of the Ranikor Block level Committee, the Congress party is facing a difficult task to reorganise the party which has been in power in the region for more than 15 years.
A Congress leader from South West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee informed that almost all the leaders and supporters of the Congress from Ranikor constituency have resigned and joined the rival NPP.
“It will be difficult for us to reorganise the party as all the 65 primary units of the Ranikor BCC are with NPP and almost all the leaders and supporters followed suit”, the leader said, adding that there is a need to identify new faces so that the party can organise the primary units,” the DCC leader said.
On June 12, all the leaders and supporters of the RBCC have publicly announced at Ranikor that they have resigned from the party and joined the ruling NPP after the Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the upgradation of the Ranikor Administrative Unit to a Civil Sub-Division.
The RBCC was dissolved by the President and General Secretary of the Block Unit and the flag of the Indian National Congress was taken down while the flag of the NPP was hoisted instead.
Local MLA and senior Congress leader MM Danggo is set to resign from the Congress and also as MLA to join the NPP.
