Bangkok, June 19 (IANS) Thai authorities on Tuesday executed a male murder convict, the first in nine years.
Theerasak Longji, 26, was charged with murder and robbery by the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court. He was then handed the death sentence, reports Xinhua news agency.
He stabbed the victim 24 times and stole his mobile phone and wallet in 2012. The execution by lethal injection lasted for three hours.
The Justice Ministry issued a regulation on execution by lethal injection in 2003, replacing execution by firing squad, according to the department.
The department said Theerasak was the seventh convict executed by lethal injection since the method was introduced.
Since 1935, 325 convicts have been executed in Thailand out of which 319 were killed by the firing squad.
