Joel Gatphoh School observes death anniversary of Thomas Jones-I

NONGSTOIN: The Joel Gatphoh Memorial Synod Higher Secondary School, Kynroh on Friday observed the death anniversary of the father of Khasi Alphabet, Thomas Jones-I and felicitated the Wallamkupar K Bani which secure in the Rank 12  in the SSLC examination this year.

The celebration was also attended by Nongstoin Legislator ,Macmillan Byrsat, Rev. H.F.Wahlang former Headmaster of the School, Rev. K.B.Snaitang Executive Secretary of the KJP Synod and also the in charge of Christian Education beside others. Rev. P.B.Kharbani, Principal of the school presided over the meeting.

Rev. H.F.Wahlang the former Headmaster of the School said that life changed for the Khasis on June 22, 1841, when Thomas and Ann Jones reached Cherrapunjee from Calcutta. As a mark of respect, the state Government has agreed to declare June 22 as a state holiday.

He also lauded the untiring effort of the managing committee and the teachers of the school under the leadership of Rev. P.B.Kharbani  as the school has became one of the best schools in West Khasi Hills and no one can believe that a student from Joel Gatphoh would secure the 12th  position among Top 20 I the SSLC in the MBoSE examination.

He also took pride  to announce that students of the school have passed with flying colours in SSLC and HSSLC.  While 100 % students of the school passed the HSSLC and in the SSLC out of 40 students only three  students have failed.

Macmillan when congratulate the managing committee of the school for producing a top ranking student in the district said “ It was a proud moment for the district that from the backward area of his constituency, the school emerged a shining star for the whole state”.

He also said that though only 2% of the total minority population in Indi, the Christian missionary had donated lots in term of education in India.

He also said that that the MDA government had drafted the state education policy and he wanted every schools to give a suggestion before implementing the education policy in the state.

Macmillan stressed on the need of Central funding in every school in Nongstoin whereas most of the schools in other district and other constituencies received the central fund. So he assured the managing committee of the Joel Gatphoh that he would talk to the Chief Minister regarding the matter so that the schools in Nongstoin would be benefit from the central schemes.

The chief guest also felicitated Wallamkupar K Bani which secured the 12th  position in the SSLC examination conducted by MBoSE this year..
