SHILLONG: The NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Government (MDA) is now receiving demands from various quarters to upgrade their areas into Civil Sub Division ever since the announcement of the creation of the Ranikor Civil Sub Division.

Pushing forward this demand to create the civil sub division, an organisation from Mawsynram met Deputy Chief Minister, PrestoneTynsong on Friday to impress on the need to upgrade the Mawsynram  Community and Rural Development Block into a Civil Sub Division.

Addressing a press conference after meeting the Deputy Chief Minister on Friday , All Mawsynram Constituency People’s Conference (AMCPC) president, Gilbert Kharraswai  said that the Mawsynram Community and Rural Development Block was one of the oldest in the State which was created prior the inception of the State.

It came into being even before such administration was created in
Mawkyrwat or Ranikor,” Kharraswai said.

He said that that Mawkyrwat had been made a district while Ranikor would soon get the Civil Sub Division status.

“We strongly feel that the Government should consider the demand for creation of the Civil Sub Divison in Mawsynram,” he said.

According to AMCPC president, the creation of the Civil Sub Division would bring the administration closer to the people and it would greatly benefit the people from Mawsynram especially those residing in
the border villages with Bangladesh.

“The people are facing great difficultly to come all the way to Shillong for any official work. With majority of the people of the
area being daily wagers, they cannot afford to come all the way to the State capital to get their work done,” he said.

Meanwhile, AMCPC president also said that they have also drawn the attention of the Government along the Hatmawdon-Dangar road upto Trongpleng which has not been repaired for the past 20 years.
