SHILLONG: The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) on Tuesday conducted the inventorisation of the Punjabi Lane (Them Iew Mawlong) amid a demonstration by women residents of the colony.
Speaking to mediapersons during the survey, B.S Sohliya, the chief executive officer of the municipal board said the residents of the colony were not cooperative to the extent required for the inventorisation as many houses were locked.
The municipal board, besides listing the houses, had to make a headcount of the residents of the colony as part of the exercise.
The SMB is conducting the exercise in accordance with the directive of the high level committee in order to identify the legal and illegal settlers in the area.
Sohliya said the officers held discussions with the leaders of the colony to ensure that the exercise was carried out smoothly.
He further informed that the exercise might take a day or two to complete.
Altogether six teams with three members each, accompanied by two police personnel, were involved in the inventory survey.
According to Sohliya, 128 employees of the board are residing in the area.
