NHRC panel records statements of Khasi boys assaulted in Punjabi Lane on May 31

SHILLONG: The three-member National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) panel that is here in the city   to inquire into the recent clashes in Shillong, on Wednesday recorded the statement of three Khasi boys who were assaulted in Punjabi Lane on May 31 last.

The Commission recorded the statement of the three boys and their father besides, officials of the State police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Urban Affairs department, magistrates and others.

Speaking to media persons,   member of the NHRC panel, Rajvir Singh said that they are meeting each and every one and after obtaining reports from the state authorities, the report will be submitted before the Commission. The NHRC panel is here in Shillong till Friday

On the other hand, IP Singh who is also a member of the panel said that had met the people from the Sikh community and they would also meet the people from Khasi community

“After gathering documents and records, we will try to submit the report as early as possible,” he said.

The NHRC team on Tuesday also visited the Punjabi Lane (Them Iew Mawlong ) and met the residents.

 

The NHRC has also sought detailed incident report from District  Magistrate, copy of the proposal initiated for relocation of the Sikh people , report of the SP regarding the safety and security of the Sikh residents, copies of the FIRs registered, copies of the medical reports of the injured persons and police men, executive order regarding the curfew, CCTV footage, photograph, video clipping or news report related to May 31 incident and copies of the daily situation report of the SP.
