Social Welfare Minister winds up maiden visit to SWGH

TURA: Minister for Social Welfare, Kyrmen Shylla concluded his maiden visit to South West Garo Hills after a two-day monitoring and review of the flagship programmes of the government being implemented in the district at Ampati on Wednesday.

Legislator of Salmanpara, W D Sangma was also present at the two-day meeting conducted by the District Administration of South West Garo Hills at the DRDA conference hall to review and monitor the status of implementation of various flagship programmes and schemes of the government through different line departments. Deputy Commissioner H D B Sangma and ADC & Project Director, DRDA, Dikki D Shira and along with their team of officials were present to facilitate the proceedings and discussions during the meeting.

In his opening remarks on the first day, the Minister said that the review meeting was not a fault finding exercise, but rather being a new minister in the government he was keen to learn about the process of implementation of various schemes from the officers as well as the problems and constraints faced by them. He urged upon the officers to come up with their suggestions as to how these flagship programmes and schemes can be implemented better for the larger benefit of the people of the district.

On the concluding day after having heard the presentations from the district heads of various line departments and their suggestions for improvement, the minister hailed the district officers for the hard work and coordinated efforts to ensure success of the projects and schemes implemented by them under the flagship programmes of the government despite. He said that he has learnt a lot from the officers and was happy to see that despite several constraints the officers have managed with the little resources that they have to see that the projects are taken up well and bring about change in the lives of the people of the district and assured that the problems faced by them and their suggestions for improvement would be given due attention by the government. He also informed that such review meeting in the district would be conducted every three months.

 

Salmanpara MLA, W D Sangma expressed his gratitude to the minister for taking keen interest to come down to the district to review the progress of the schemes and said that if such review meetings could be held within short intervals we will be able to achieve the desired objectives and target of these flagship programmes.

 

On the first day, implementation of flagship programmes like MGNREGA, IAY/PMAY-G, NSAP under DRDA, Integrated Child Development Scheme, National Rural Drinking Water Programme under PHE, National Health Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission and PMGSY were  presented by the officers of the concerned line departments, while  implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meal, Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) was presented and reviewed on the second day.
