TURA: With a view to promote and encourage SC/ST owned enterprises, an awareness campaign sponsored under National SC/ST Hub Scheme, was held on Thursday at BADO Multi Facility Centre near here. The campaign organised by the District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC), Ampati, South West Garo Hills saw participation of hundred plus entrepreneurs from the age group of 18 to 45 years.

The National SC/ST Hub (NSSH) is an initiative of the Government of India with the sole intention to envision, create and scale-up ventures to substantially enable the socio-economic empowerment of the SC/ST communities. The NSSH targets developing a supportive ecosystem towards SC/ST entrepreneurs and would provide professional support to the SC/ST enterprises thereby enabling them to effectively participate in public procurement process.

Delivering the inaugural address as the Chief Guest, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Hazel D B Sangma urged the participants to be attentive and exercise the knowledge gained during the awareness campaign.

Speaking on the tendency of the educated youth to depend on jobs in the government sector for their livelihood, the deputy commissioner said that it was high time that this mindset was changed.  She stated that instead of depending on government the youth should grasp the opportunities being provided for them in such platforms.

Earlier, General Manager, DCIC, Ampati, D F R Marak while speaking on the NSSH scheme said that a change of mindset was required for a successful enterprise culture.

The inaugural session was followed by the technical and entrepreneurs sessions during which resource persons from the State Bank of India and the IBDLP shed light on various livelihood promotion activities sponsored by them.

Among the resource persons were SBI Ampati Branch Manager L Khongsai and South West Garo Hills Basin Development Unit District Programme Manager Brilliar Ch Sangma.
