TURA: The Tura Municipal Board (TMB) is once again a trending news topic for unsystematically dumping garbage at its dumping ground at Rongkhon Songgital which according to residents, has resulted in garbage spilling over to the christian cemetery nearby.
The Rongkhon Songgital Graveyard Committee while strongly condemning the act on Wednesday has termed it as a desecration of the graveyard, which is allegedly under 12 to 16 feet of garbage in many areas along the boundary wall.
“The guard wall which was constructed recently is simply 2 feet in height and only 7 to 8 meters  in length which is not even enough to contain a truckload of garbage,” the committee stated.
The committee in the past had made repeated complaints against the activity and a case was even filed in the High Court recently. Although the spillover had stopped for a while after the filing of the case, the residents alleged that the careless dumping of garbage (human waste included) had once again resumed resulting in garbage spilling over to the cemetery.
‘‘The people of Rongkon Songgital can no longer tolerate such kind of mindless activities committed by the Municipal Board.
We urge the concerned authorities including the government to immediately put a stop to it,” the committee demanded.
