SHILLONG: ‘A Traditional Health Centre will soon be set up in Mylliem, focusing on the indigenous herbal medicines’, Mylliem MLA and Urban Affairs Minister, Hamlet Dohling said at the inauguration of Herbal Garden and Ayush Model Village under Ayush Gram (National Ayush Mission) at Madan Ingsyiem, Mylliem on Thursday.
Launched by the Central Government in 2014, the National Ayush Mission aims to implement the Ayush way of life in the model villages and provide easy access to Ayush services through increased number of healthcare facilities and better availability of medicines and trained manpower.
Speaking on the occasion at the function organized by the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills, Dohling said it is a golden opportunity for the people that the Ayush scheme is being launched in the State as many people are also turning to alternative medicine such as ayurvedic medicine for treatment.
Stressing on the need to preserve, protect, promote and document knowledge of indigenous medicinal plants, he reiterated the need of setting up a Regional Research Institute in the State.
Citing the example of Kerala where Ayurveda
treatment has become a huge industry, Dohling said that with hard work and perseverance, traditional healing will prove to be a highly remunerative industry for the State as well.
Ayush physicians also shared their experiences and created awareness on TB, malaria, diarrhoea and the values of medicinal plants.
