Sensitisation on e-waste management rules held
SHILLONG: A sensitisation programme on Electronic Waste (e-waste) Management Rules, 2016 was organised by NEHU ENVIS RP Centre, Shillong and Rongjeng Technologies, Guwahati, at NEHU on recently. Participants from IIM Shillong, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, Karo Sambhav, IT & Communication Department and different independent institutions inside NEHU campus attended the programme which focused on e-waste compliance.
The challenges and difficulties regarding consumers not coming forth to dispose their e-waste and the issues of e-waste compliance in Meghalaya were discussed.
Problems caused by improper disposal of e-waste in the region and the harmful effects on the environment and human health were also highlighted.
The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) acknowledged their readiness to help NEHU ENVIS and Rongjeng Technologies, the authorised collector, in the process of inventorisation and collection of e-waste in the state.
The importance of Form II and Form III, appended to the E-waste Management Rules, 2016 was highlighted at the meeting.
The meeting also stressed on creating awareness which could be spread to the common people, institutions and government offices on the importance of developing proper e-waste management rules for a safe and healthy environment.

Drugs seized in Nongstoin, three held
SHILLONG: Acting on a tip off, Nongstoin Police raided a house at Mawlarshnong, New Nongstoin and seized heroin besides arresting three suspected drug peddlers and users.
Police informed that the recovery and arrests were made on Wednesday based on a tip-off. The raid led to seizure of 0.12 g of heroin. The three arrested drug peddlers and users have been identified as Philosaphar Thabah, Banlumlang Nongsiej and Aronsteward Kharkongor.
