SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad awarded Assam Rifles personnel with the Governor’s Gold and Silver Medals for ‘Gallantry and Distinguished Seva’ during an investiture ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
Dy Comdt Vijay Kumar Chauhan, Dy Comdt Satish Dhyani, Sub Milap Chand, Nb Sub Mangal Singh Gusain, Hav Jit Bahadur Gurung, Rfn Soibam Gopendro Sing, Rfn N Ranjoy Meetei, Rfn Surya Kumar Deori, Rfn Khoiram Nganba Meitei and Rfn T Manglal John were awarded the gold medals and Tater Tapo, Rfn C Korakmang Yimchunger, Rfn Saroj Gurung and Rfn Prabhu Nath Thakur were awarded the silver medals respectively.
The ceremony was witnessed by a number of civil and military dignitaries.
The Governor’s Gold & Silver Medal were instituted in the year 1957 and are awarded as a recognition for acts of gallantry and meritorious service by the personnel of Assam Rifles in the North Eastern states.
The governor praised the service and dedication exhibited by the Assam Rifles over the past 183 years while operating in the rugged and inhospitable terrain of the North East and exhorted them to continue the excellent work.
