SHILLONG: State BJP member and MLA from South Shillong Constituency, Sanbor Shullai  said that the party will not field any candidate for the Ranikor by-election, but will support the NPP candidate M.M. Danggo. He also called upon the coalition partners to support Danggo as fielding a common candidate by them is not desirable.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday he said, “We will support the consensus candidate of the NPP, M.M. Danggo. From day one we have given commitment that the BJP will not field any candidate and have informed the party high command in Delhi.”

He attended the Ranikor Block Congress meeting recently and  more than 15000 supporters of Danggo extended their support to Danggo, who is working towards upgrading the Ranikor administrative unit to Civil Sub-Division which is a long pending demand.

He urged the alliance partners in the MDA to extend their support to Danggo instead of putting up common candidate.Recently, the PDF chairman PN Syiem called a meeting of the likeminded parties to support a common candidate. Calling upon the parties for united fight in the by-election, he said that the support will strengthen the government and allow it to complete the term of five years and this will keep the Congress out. “Danggo will sweep the polls ,” he said adding that others might forfeit their security.
