SHILLONG: The chairman of Meghalaya State Planning Board and Independent legislator from Nongkrem, Lambor Malngiang said the state government has identified a few places for the relocation of the legitimate residents of the Punjabi Lane (Them Iew Mawlong).
Talking to media persons recently, Malngiang said the government would not bow down to any tactic or pressure and asserted it will not entertain any organisation coming from outside the state.
“We have seen that a number of organisations from Assam and New Delhi are coming here to interfere into the matter related to the state, while the whole process is still on,” he said, assuring that the matter will be resolved soon.
Stating that the government will not compromise on the subject of relocation of the residents, Malngiang said that the relocation will have to take place and government has to see the overall interests of the people.
He said that the colony was meant for the temporary residences of the workers but now many big establishments have come up in the area.
“We would like to see that the place is vacated,” he added.
