Local MLA felicitates meritorious students

NONGPOH: With an aim to encourage young students who had successfully passed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate 2018, the programme committee framed by the local legislator of Jirang Constituency Sosthenes Sohtun organised a felicitation programme to honour 52 meritorious students of constituency. The event was held at St. Peter Secondary School, Umkadhor, Ri Bhoi district.
The felicitation programme was attended by the local MLA, Victor Rani, MDC Jirang Constituency, Fr. Kyrshanlang Kharpuri, assistant headmaster St. Peter Secondary School, Nikel R. Marak, headmaster Rangsokona Secondary School, Najim Kharmalki, Patharkhmah Rangbah Shnong, student and teachers of St. Peter Secondary School and parents of the meritorious students.
It may be mentioned here that the felicitation of meritorious students was the first of its kind in Jirang Constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, Sohtun congratulated the successful students who had passed the SSLC examination and thanked the authority of St. Peter Secondary School for taking up the initiative in organising the programme. He added that as the representative of the Constituency, he aims to uplift the education sector in the constituency.
”Jirang Constituency had never lagged behind in terms of education but this constituency needs such encouragement programme to boost the momentum of the students to work hard. We need young minds to bring in positive changes in the area, apart from all round development”, Sohtun stressed.
Sohtun also said that, Jirang Constituency is still in need of major development, therefore, he urged the local people of the constituency to support and provide cooperation in developmental programmes which will be implemented soon in the constituency under his initiative.
