SHILLONG: NPP leader and Deputy Speaker Timothy Shira on Monday hinted that since Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will contest from South Tura seat after the resignation of sitting MLA Agatha Sangma, he will be the common candidate of the MDA.
Shira said there is an understanding with BJP and NPP and hoped that the former will not put up any candidate for the by-poll.
In the February Assembly polls, Agatha had defeated her next rival Billy Kid Sangma of the BJP by a margin of 1,603 votes. Grithalson Arengh of the Congress was placed at the third spot.
Regarding the role of Agatha, Shira said after she was elected as MP, she was acceptable to all and there will not be any problem for her to contest and win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Tura.
He added that the immediate focus of the party will be on South Tura and Ranikor constituencies to ensure the win of the chief minister and MM Danggo, respectively.
