As globalization spreads its wings and offers a lift of brotherhood through communication, the cross cultural linkages and knowledge sharing by the advancement of technological adventures and human resource development; the young poet from the educational hub of Assam, Nagaon spreads the same with his pen. Let me introduce you one of our contemporary poets from this generation, whose prime motive is to spread the chronicles of the ethnicity and glorious history of the entire North Eastern region and India at large in the international purview, Parthajit Borah, known for his poetic skills expressed in different international journals, radio and newspapers running all across the north eastern region of contemporary India.
What specifically unique characteristics one can draw from his poetic vibes are-rooted concern of the region, its history and rich linguistic heritage. Not only that, each specific ground the world should always remember is evident through his words. Be it the Nelson Mendela’s freedom struggle against racism or Tagore’s wholeheartedness in uniquely tying India with his creativity; poet Borah has pinned up the chronicles the humanity should always remember with his mesmerizing word. Quoted from his latest release “A New Beginning”, a USA based publication, “Every morrow of the earth/waited for a hero/ Every stars of the night/shine for the moon” (from the poem Freedom of Mandela) pioneers his thought of international brotherhood and humanity across all the citizens of the world, which is heralded by the verses of happiness in living the life in a free land, where no casteism and racism stands, where birds can chirp with a free life and a black nowhere remains as the colour of hate and obstruction. On the other hand, as a tribute to Gurudev Tagore, how the world should follow Gurudev’s footsteps is expressed through the essence mention of his deeds in the verse: “Smearing humanity on face you emerge at the land of celebration…/You paint sanguine sun on your forehead/it makes India..”(Published by Sangai Express).
A poet is successful when his words represent the hearts of millions. Another unique characteristic one can draw from his poetry pieces is the abundance of philosophical message which soothes a reader’s heart and mind and inhale the soulful wind through the verses. In his piece entitled “A Spark of My Poem”(published by The Shillong Times), his words represent the millions of hearts in his parallel sayings, as: “ I unfurled the flag of victory at the edge/ Of my fortune to swing free at the happy pendulum of pride ethos…….The victory of humanity is merged/ From Church to Temple, Masjid/ To heart at a little distance”, where the poet expressed the beauty of life and the power of the thread of humanity in joining the hearts of the world irrespective of caste and religion.
It is worrisome in the contemporary days not to see the poems with mythological roots, where mythology began through the verses of poetry in the Vedic era. Although Indian fiction at contemporary days has quite inclined to the mythological scenario of the country, the appreciable void of mythological base in Indian poetry is so seriously taken by the poet Parthajit Borah, who with his poetry piece “Chitralekha: Promise of Love for the Princes, Usha” revived the scene with his verse: “Fallen tears of Usha percolated a brook/ of love over Anirudha’s heart for generations of dancing waves on the Brahmaputra/ the warmth of love rewarded Chitrlekha for reconciliation of heart”(quoted from anthology HejarKobirHopun). Through these verses, the poet embraces the purity of love and heralds the power of India’s mythological sagas.
Likewise the chart goes on by the inscription of poems like “One Day in Heaven”, “In the Annals of Time”(The Sangai Express) etc., where the poet seems to be quite conscious in befriending the precious factor of human life called “Time”. As he wrote: “I gradually lose your green smile/in the annals of time/ Fallen ring of your finger sparks me/ Now I am dying by your bright eyes/ in the annals of time”
Thus the hero of contemporary literary scenario of the state of Assam revolves around the hearts of readers and sprinkles the blessings of love and spirituality in the world with his global vibes. It is the duty of the readers to follow the vibes set by poets like him and makes the world a better place for living.
