SHILLONG: The Congress has criticised the NPP-led MDA government for accepting the 50:50 fund-sharing pattern for the smart city project instead of 90:10.
“During the tenure of MUA-II government, this funding pattern was not acceptable to us and if we follow the same pattern, we will be controlled by Delhi as we will have to follow their guidelines,” Congress spokesperson Zenith Sangma said.
According to Sangma, the concept of smart city imposed by Delhi will not be applicable to a small city like Shillong as the idea should be a ‘livable city’ and not a smart city.
Sangma said with the smart city project, certain side effects are bound to happen and radiation is one of them.
“Radiation following the installation of towers for providing free WiFi and other modern amenities will affect the health of the people,” he said.
The Congress legislator pointed out that Mumbai is a metro city but is affected by high radiation.
