SHILLONG: KHADC CEM, PN Syiem on Tuesday ruled out any threat to the Executive Committee (EC) led by the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA).
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Syiem said, “Those are just rumours. There is nothing like that. The Executive Committee of the PDA is still very strong.”
When contacted, UDP parliamentary party leader Teinwell Dkhar revealed that five party MDCs had held a meeting and signed a letter demanding a special session of the council.
“I don’t have any ideas about the others. But on the part of the UDP, we have held a meeting and signed the letter,” he said. The five UDP MDCs are Teinwell Dkhar, Donkupar Sumer, Equator Nongrang, Neil Antonio War and Rona Khymdeit. “If we get positive response from other MDCs, we will definitely ask for a special session,” Dkhar said, adding that atleast 20 members have to come together to demand for a special session.
Meanwhile, an NPP leader confirmed on Tuesday that the party has also signed the letter.
The KHADC has 29 members of whom 28 are from the PDA. Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MDC Adelbert Nongrum is the lone fence sitter.
