SHILLONG: The move to put up a common candidate and the UDP’s efforts to align with the Congress will have no impact on the NPP in the Ranikor by-election, Deputy Speaker and NPP leader Timothy D Shira said on Wednesday.
70 percent of the voters in the constituency will vote for M.M Danggo since people are very happy with the government’s decision to upgrade Ranikor into a civil sub-division, he said.
“We are confident that we will win the by-election,” he added.
He expressed reservation about the Congress rendering its support to UDP in the by-poll, saying that the Congress has made it clear that they would put up a candidate in Ranikor.
Asked about the South Tura by-poll which is crucial for Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Shira said the NPP will go all out to ensure his win in the constituency.
Shira further informed that Agatha Sangma, who resigned from the South Tura seat on Tuesday, will contest the Lok Sabha polls next year.
