TURA: A delegation from the A’chotchong Area Development Committee (AADC) and the Garo Students’ Union, Mendal in North Garo Hills met Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma on Thursday in Shillong where various grievances being faced by the people of the region were aired as well as a memorandum on the various issues submitted.

Aiming at all round development of the area, the delegation among others demanded the creation of a new police outpost for the area. A’chotchonggre and its surrounding villages all come under Bajengdoba Police Station which is quite a distance away. Informing that criminals and anti social elements were taking advantage of the situation they urged that a new police outpost is set up at the earliest.

With regard to road connectivity, the leaders said that they were cut off from mainstream economy and any scope for improvement due to lack of proper roads. They demanded the sanction of a new road from Dengnanggre to A’chotchonggre and Gengnang village to A’chotchonggre under the PMGSY scheme.

The issue of poor mobile connectivity was also raised in the memorandum. The delegation informed that the people of these areas were still living in the dark ages without any form of mobile connectivity and demanded the urgent installation of mobile towers.

With regard to education, the delegation while pointing out that there are not enough classrooms for students in schools from the area, demanded the extension of classrooms in both upper primary and secondary schools. The delegation also demanded that separate toilets are constructed for Boys, Girls and the teaching staff in these schools so as to prevent unease among the students.

The delegation also sought the intervention of the Chief Minister into the construction of the PMGSY road connecting A’chotchonggre to Chisim village which has been delayed past the stipulated time for its construction. They urged the Chief Minister to issue a directive to complete the construction within a given time frame, or cancel the contract and allot the work to another able contractor.
