GUWAHATI: The proprietor of a city-based automobile dealership, who was reportedly evading arrest for a couple of days, was nabbed from a resort in Sonapur near here on Sunday afternoon and brought to Dispur police station for interrogation, police said.
Rishabh Himmatsingka, the proprietor, has been accused of abusing and humiliating a senior employee at the Ganeshguri-based dealership’s service centre on Thursday, with the matter going viral on social media and triggering condemnation and protests by some organisations.
Pictures of the employee showed him helplessly squatting and holding his ears in a corner of the service centre, even as other employees were celebrating “some achievement” of the company by cutting a cake and clicking pictures.
The employee had reportedly failed to complete his stock related audit, which led an infuriated Himmatsingka to allegedly assault and humiliate him in front of other employees.
Organisations, including the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, staged protests in front of the showroom of the dealership and demanded a public apology from the proprietor. At least two FIRs were reportedly lodged at Dispur Police station subsequently.
“We arrested him from Dichang Resort in Sonapur around 1.30pm on Sunday after we were informed about his presence there. He was thereafter brought to Dispur police station for interrogation. He will be produced in the court of the chief judicial magistrate tomorrow,” H. Das, the officer in-charge of Dispur police station told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
Assam police had recently disclosed before the media that Himmatsingka did not cooperate in the case against him or appear before police even after repeated summons.
